“We can agitate acids, alkalis and explosive liquids safely and keep the starting materials homogeneously mixed until the dispensing stage with the ATEX-certified LZB air motors from Atlas Copco” says Sebastian Noll, Füll Systembau Gmbh.
Füll Systembau Gmbh, based in Idstein Germany, is in the business of dispensing, storage and mixing systems. The range of solutions spans from relatively straightforward barrel IBC and tripod agitators to tailor-made dispensing plants. Including the construction of intricate storage tanks abroad.. All complemented by project planning and engineering services.
When it comes to dispensing, conveying and mixing paints and coatings, precision matters. To counteract even the slightest tendencies of separation. It’s imperative to precisely measure ingredients to the gram and suspend them at predetermined speeds.
“I know that there is no all-purpose solution, but we are always looking for the safest, most efficient, and most durable solution for our customers,” says Sebastian Noll, Chemical Engineer at Füll Systembau Gmbh.
Approximately 80 percent of our storage tanks and agitators are utilized in environments prone to potential explosions. These scenarios involve the presence of highly flammable solvent vapors. By employing Atlas Copco’s LZB air motors, we ensure our safety and security in such circumstances.”
Füll Systembau has chosen pneumatic drives from the Atlas Copco LZB series for mixing the coatings in its plants. In contrast to electric motors, the LZB air motors hold ATEX certification. Furthermore, they come equipped with oil-free vanes that allow them to operate using unlubricated compressed air. And despite their extremely small dimensions, the torque value is specified from 6.0 to 20.9 Nm.
“Maintaining oil-free operation is of great importance to us. Even the slightest presence of lubricant particles in the exhaust air could compromise the quality of any mixture. Especially within the automotive industry and in industrial coating applications. It is crucial to steer clear of paint wetting impairment substances (PWIS). These substances can lead to defects in the coating or the creation of craters on the surfaces. Something that reduces the durability and robustness of the coating.” Sebastian Noll continues.
Another vital consideration is the weight of the air motor and its sustainability impact. This lightweight package contributes to energy efficiency. “By using these drives and through the customer-specific design of our agitators. we can reduce their energy consumption by up to 60 percent. We have now installed several dozen and successfully used them in mixing and agitating. The low weight offers additional potential for new applications and savings”
